Stimulus and Strategy:
Today’s workout is a chipper with an increasing number of wall-ball shots throughout. Like most chippers, manage your reps, minimize long breaks, and — pun intended — keep chipping away at the movements. The loading of the barbell is meant to be moderate for the snatches and light to moderate for the deadlifts. You may power or squat the snatches. Try to hang on to large chunks of wall-ball shots and see if you can go unbroken on the deadlifts to finish.

Scaling:
Reduce the loading of the medicine ball and barbell. Reduce the repetitions of each movement. Reduce the height of the box.

To reduce the complexity of the snatches, perform hang snatches. For the handstand push-ups, perform pike push-ups.

In case of injury or limitation, for the snatches, perform dumbbell snatches or power cleans if there is an overhead limitation. For the wall-ball shots, perform dumbbell thrusters, medicine-ball front squats (overhead limitation), or medicine-ball push presses (squat limitation). For the handstand push-ups, consider hand-release push-ups or seated dumbbell shoulder presses. For the box jumps, perform step-ups. For the deadlifts, perform sumo deadlifts, dumbbell deadlifts, or good mornings.

Coaching cues:
In the wall-ball shot, utilize your legs and hips to drive the ball up to the target. Keep your arms relaxed on the descent and use the momentum from your lower body to propel the ball to the target.

Tough. Wall balls in sets of 10, just tried to stay consistent and not rest too long between sets. All singles for snatches, weight felt very heavy today. 3 misses. HSPUs in sets of 5. Steady on the box jumps, all step-downs. Deads in sets of 10, tabata style.

Did this inside to a ~9' ceiling but to make it fair I asked AI to calculate a fair substitution. It said "to perform the same total work, the ratio of new reps to original reps must be equal to the inverse ratio of the work heights based on physics calculations of the work performed against gravity: You would need to complete 20% more reps". Therefore the wall balls were 12-24-36-48 @20lbs to ~9'. Rest as Rx.

been 10 hours since I did this and my body is still feeling it. Know it’s bad when the legs don’t even want to do box jumps. Shoulders were still sore from wednesdays burpee fiesta. Way spicier than expected.

For me, shoulders started rebelling during the piked pu and really disliked the 30 thrusters afterwards. Box jumps were ok, but dead’s offended my hammies.

18:43 with 115lbs on the bar. As rx’d otherwise and with power snatches. Went with 10; 14/6; 18/12; 15/13/12, on wallball shots to make the sets longer as I went. Broke HSPU 2-4-6-3-3-2 (deadlifts unbroken but it was super challenging with legs and lungs burning equally)

bpx jumps 15-10-5. Lifting shoes. Worked up to 105-115-125-135 lb squat snatch doubles beforehand. (46yo/176cm/176lbs)


Dad (69yo) 19:07 with 3-6-9-12 on wallball at 6lb/9’ since they are super hard for him 10 split stance db snatches each arm with 8lbs

20 hip height bar push-ups 30 box step ups at 16”, 40 deadlifts with 45lbs!

Did this mostly in the rain and not much energy this morning, or distracted by life stuff, either way it didn't go as well as I would like. Pending what tomorrow brings, I plan to make up today's WOD - it looks like a slay fest.

14:25 as brand new beginning (just started cross fit training style last week, not currently an athletic person). Staff at my gym recommended I do cleans instead of snatches because theyre both new to me. Any recommendations on how to work my way up to a snatch?

Research firm and start with a PVC pipe to get technique down. Then empty barbell. Then add weight. Always technique first before adding weight/intensity

I’d suggest learning in stages. Get the first step down (floor to thigh, aka a deadlift), then step 2 (thigh to a dynamic shrug), then linking those two together before thinking about the pull to overhead. There are great videos out there to help, especially Coach Burgner’s. Kudos for not trying to dive in too fast and either hurting yourself or learning it wrong.

globo wod: dumbbell sub for snatches and deadlifts 50/70lb dumbbells (single DB for snatches). wallball sub dumbbell thrusters 15/20lb dumbbells. For box jumps sub jumps to a bench or sturdy platform. handstand pushups sub heavy standing dumbbell push presses at 60-75 percent of your bodyweight total combined weight of the dumbbells.
