2. Earning Your CrossFit Level 1 Trainer Credential

To open a CrossFit affiliate, you must first obtain your CrossFit Level 1 trainer (CF-L1) credential. This course is your foundation. It equips you with the core methodology, essential movement techniques, and coaching tools you’ll use every day. Holding a CF-L1 credential demonstrates your commitment to quality coaching and athlete safety. 

 

Most affiliates go on to pursue higher-level training, but holding a current CF-L1 is the minimum requirement to open your gym.

Once approved, you’ll gain full access to the CrossFit name, tools, and global community, everything you need to launch and grow a successful affiliate.

Affiliate fees vary by country, ranging from $2,500 to $4,500 annually. Monthly, interest-free payment plans are now available to make getting started even more accessible.

  • This is a one-time fee paid during the application process. It covers the administrative cost of reviewing your application, business plan, and affiliate readiness.

  • Once your gym is approved and launched, there is a recurring annual fee of $2,500–$4,500, depending on your location, with monthly, interest-free payment options. This ensures ongoing access to business tools, education, marketing resources, and support from CrossFit HQ.

  • You’ll receive access to our Affiliate Toolkit. Once you have obtained a Level 1 Certificate, you can then submit an application. Upon approval of your application and completion of the affiliation process, you’ll be officially listed on the Affiliate Map.

  • Yes, you can pay the application fee before getting your Level 1 Certificate. However, a Level 1 is required before you can submit an application.

  • The application fee is non-refundable. Make sure you’re ready to commit to the process before applying.

  • Support is delivered online through video sessions, downloadable resources, and direct affiliate mentorship. In-person support may be available at events or summits.

  • Yes. Many gym owners affiliate to benefit from the CrossFit name, systems, and community. The application process is the same.

  • Absolutely. CrossFit affiliates exist in over 150 countries. The application process is open globally.

  • No. Our resources are designed to help new entrepreneurs build and run a successful gym, even if it’s your first time owning a business.
